Amazon has blocked Meta's Muse AI agent from shopping on Amazon.com after asking Meta to remove the retailer from Muse's shopping experience. Users began running into the restriction on Sunday, September 20.

Amazon's Objections

Amazon said Meta had not notified it that Muse would access its store and that it had not authorized the integration. It also said the agent does not identify itself when it browses and appears to capture and store customer credentials, which Amazon says could create privacy and security risks. Meta has said Muse has no access to passwords or payment details.

Agents Should Operate Openly, Amazon Says

Amazon's position is that third-party apps offering to buy from other businesses on a customer's behalf should operate openly and respect each business's decision about whether to participate — and that Muse has the same obligations.

Part of a Longer Campaign

Amazon has spent the past year trying to keep outside agents off its site, suing Perplexity over its Comet browser and moving to block shopping agents from Google and OpenAI. Shopify, meanwhile, has embraced Muse.

What Online Sellers Should Take From It

Every store now has to decide how it treats AI agents: block them, allow them, or allow only agents that identify themselves. That decision touches bot detection, checkout design and fraud rules — and it is better made deliberately than discovered when an agent starts placing orders.
