Epic Pauses Most Product Development for Six Weeks to Fix MyChart Security Flaws

Medical records company Epic paused most new product development for six weeks to fix security flaws that could put patient data at risk, CEO Judy Faulkner confirmed. The flaws were found when Epic pointed an Anthropic AI security model at its own code through Anthropic's Project Glasswing program. Certain customer configurations of MyChart could let outsiders view medical records without triggering intrusion logs. Epic says it does not host customer medical data directly, but the flaws could expose information in hospital and clinic systems.

Apple Will Tighten macOS 'Full Disk Access' Because of AI Agent Risks

Apple said on October 2, 2026 that it will add controls around Full Disk Access in macOS, warning that some developers use the permission in ways that expose users' files, mail, messages and browsing history without their full understanding — and that the risks will grow as AI agents become more capable and autonomous. Apple says users who genuinely want to grant this access will be able to do so only through very explicit action. It did not give a date or macOS version.

Kevin Mandia's Armadin Raises $255.5M at $2.5B for AI Agent Swarms That Attack Networks First

Armadin, the security startup founded by Mandiant founder Kevin Mandia, raised a $255.5 million Series B at a $2.5 billion valuation, announced October 1, 2026. Andreessen Horowitz and Accel led the round, with Google Ventures and Kleiner Perkins participating. Armadin runs continuously active swarms of AI agents that chain vulnerabilities together to execute real-world attacks against a customer's own environment, then help remediate what they find. It raised $190 million in March, taking total funding past $445 million.

Shopify Launches Canvas, a Way to Design Online Stores by Chatting With Sidekick

Shopify launched Canvas on October 1, 2026, an AI site builder that lets merchants redesign their online store by chatting with Sidekick, Shopify's built-in AI agent, while seeing every page — homepage, product, collection and cart — update together in real time. Merchants can click a section to edit it or type instructions; Sidekick asks clarifying questions, proposes approaches before changing anything and remembers design preferences. At launch, third-party themes, app blocks, markets and translations aren't supported, and Canvas is desktop-only.

ChatGPT Adds Virtual Try-On for Clothes in Its Shopping Results

OpenAI added a virtual try-on feature to ChatGPT's shopping results on October 1, 2026. A Try On button on clothing and accessory listings lets users upload a selfie or full-body photo and see an AI-generated image of themselves wearing the item; users can also upload a screenshot of a garment from any store. It runs on ChatGPT Images 2.5 and saves the uploaded photo for next time. A new Favorites option saves products to a Library. By default, OpenAI can train on personal-account uploads.
