AWS Launches Web Search on Bedrock AgentCore, Grounding Agents in Live Web Data With Zero Egress

AWS has announced general availability of Web Search on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, a fully managed tool that lets enterprise AI agents ground their responses in current, cited web knowledge without any data leaving the customer's secured AWS environment. The tool runs as a built-in connector target on the Bedrock AgentCore Gateway using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), returning relevant snippets, source URLs, titles, and publication dates that the underlying model reasons over. Pricing is usage-based at $7 per 1,000 queries, with new customers getting up to $200 in free-tier credits.

Why Grounding Is the Actual Bottleneck, Not Model Capability

This launch targets a specific, well-understood limitation rather than a novel capability: foundation models trained on a fixed corpus have a knowledge cutoff, and any enterprise agent expected to reason about current information — pricing changes, regulatory updates, competitor moves, breaking news relevant to a customer query — needs a live, verifiable data source layered on top of the model, not baked into it.
