Samsung Hikes Advanced Chipmaking Prices as AI Demand Tightens Capacity

Samsung Electronics has raised prices on some advanced contract chipmaking orders by up to 15%, effective from new orders placed in July 2026 — a rare show of pricing power for a foundry business that has been a loss-maker since 2022.

Where the Increases Land

The hikes target Samsung's 4-nanometer (SF4) and 5-nanometer (SF5) processes, with some 8-nanometer lines also affected. Customers in China and the US are seeing increases of 10% to 15%, while Taiwan-based customers are seeing a smaller 5% to 10% bump — a pricing split that reflects regional demand pressure as much as cost.

Why Samsung Has Leverage It Didn't Have a Year Ago

AI chip demand has booked up much of TSMC's leading-edge capacity, and with the market leader effectively sold out, Samsung is capturing overflow demand it previously had to discount for. If the pricing holds, analysts see Samsung's foundry division turning profitable as early as next year — earlier than most projections assumed.
